VENUS EVE & THE ABSINTHE DRINKER 2007
Paintings made in the Villa Elizabehere in Guéthary, a delapidated pink belle epoque villa known to the loacals as the haunted house..... I move in after the break down of my marriage with the kids and a growing menagerie of 'emotional support animals' they blackmail me into getting to compensate for the trauma. I paint the walls blood red to make it more cosy and install my studio in the basement.
Venus Eve and the Absinthe Drinker was shown at HIghgate Contemporary Art and the Palais Thermal in Biarritz.

02
Apres Surf at the Nudist Beach

03
Venus
Venus born from the ocean, or how you feel after taking an epic wave at Parlementia

04
The Three Graces
Reclaiming the triple goddess. Returning to a classical theme , or is this the Neo Naturists preparing for a cabaret?

05
Eve
Eve the mother goddess, enjoying the apple of knowledge.

06
The Cantina with No Name
I retrun to Oaxaca, in the aftermath of an armed rebellion, I walk the tourist free streets, and fall in love with the pinche gringo all over again in the cantina with no name. Rats scuttle across the dirt floor, there is no roof, no food, no ice, just unmarked bottles of mezcal.... it's the most romantic place I've ever been.

07
The Absinthe Drinker
Apres Degas - kind of. Full story in my book surf mama, women who drank absinthe, like Eve were held responsible for the fall of civilization as we knew it.

08
Black Moon
A night in the garden of the Addams Family mansion, owls nesting in the trees, mysterious voices in the garden...... I wander out in my nightie and fall in love with one of the intruders

09
The Spell
Why do we tell our children that if they don't obey the old ladies who lurk in the forests, their beautiful faces will be replaed by a sheeps head?

10
Peau d'Ane
Popular French fairy story in which the princess is exiled by her wicked stepamother and forced to disguise herself in the stinking hide of a dead donkey. (Don't worry it has a happy ending....)

11
Shopping in Spain
When I was a child these flamenco postcards were the most exotic thing I'd ever seen..... I can't resist picking them up when I go over the border to the ventas for cheap booze and anchovy stuffed olives.....

12
Over the Border
Into another world...... maybe trying to track down my mysterious maybe Spanish grandmother who died in the Blitz .

13
L'Heure Rosé
I guess I was thirsty when I made this one ...... temptation in the form of a piscine of rosé.
