BUM DATES WITH GREEK GODS 2024
Trips to Greece, remembering the myths, questioning the old cliche, the idea that a man being l'like a Greek God ' made men desirable....... How did dates end up for the women, goddesses, temple maidens, nymphs back in the ancient days?

01
Delphi Selfie.
I arrive in Delphi hoping to go to the temple and consult the oracle, but while we were traveling Greece went into lockdown, we were alone in the ghost town, and the temples were closed. In the morning a strange humming sound woke us and we saw a cloud of bees floating up the valley from the sea just as they had in the times of the Pythia.

02
Circe and Percy
Odysseus' boat arrives on Aeaea but Circe doesn't like the look of his men so she turns them into pigs.

03
I dreamt of wasps
This is the area to introduce viewers to the context of this image. Briefly explain what it represents, why it matters, and how it aligns with the theme of your gallery.

04
Io and Zeus
Really a bum date, having ravaged the temple maiden Io, Zeus is in trouble with his jealous wife Hera. So Zeus turns her into a cow, as one does.
Unfortunately Hera is not fooled and sends a giant gadfly to torment her.....

05
The Lithifying Gaze
Medusa in the eely depths

06
What Could Possibly Go Wrong
The first woman Pandora, left with instructions DO NOT OPEN this jar, but of course she does, unleasheing the 'beautiful evil' on mankind. Pandora, like Eve; like the absinthe drinker, refusing to let Man rot away in his man cave....

07
Cradled in the Flower of a Lotus
Persephone, or a pre Raphaelite muse posing as Persephone, or me on the river posing as a pre Raphaelite muse after a trip down river to the Tate gallery with the ghost of the fighting Temeraire behind me.

08
Really Scary Medusa
A more genuinely terrifying vision of Medusa, this is one you could hang in your hallway to ward off evil spirits , chancers and feral foxes trying to break in.....

09
Cloacina Goddess of the Great Drain
One of my favourite goddesses, she later got promoted to be Venus Cloacina, Goddess of purification fertility and desire

10
Metamorphosis
Zeus famoso lighning bolts, this one used to transform the temple maiden into a heifer .........

11
Worst Date Ever
Yeah kind of obsessed with this story......

12
Aphrodite, Polyamorous
One thing I like about Greek Myths is that the goddesses get to behave just as badly as the Gods. Lets not talk about how Christianity replaced the polyamorous love goddess with the virgin mother as #1 female deity, it was a sad day......

13
Persephone in the Underworld
So many levels to this myth, in this one Persephone in owning it as queen of the underworld and not at all missing her other life as a glorified corn idol

14
Bum Dates in my Camden Studio

15
Back to Greece for inspo
I realise that this photo is actually taken at paestum now in Italy but was once Magna Graecia so it's a greek temple ......in case anyone is fact checking

16
Temptation in Xania
Circe and Percy hanging in Temptation exhibition in Xania in Crete - it was very much appreciated by women who visited the show, but I had to explain to a few men that this is Circe's opinion not ( necessarily) mine......
